Immigration Evaluations: Expanding Your Impact and Scope of Practice

Use your clinical and assessment skills to support immigrant families through high-stakes evaluations. Understand your role, your responsibilities, and how to approach this work with clarity and care.

If you’ve heard about immigration evaluations, or have been approached about a case, you’ve likely wondered:

• Am I qualified to do this type of work?
• What is my role as a psychologist, neuropsychologist, or school psychologist in private practice in a legal case?
• How is this different from the evaluations I already conduct?
• Where do I even begin?

This training will give you a clear, grounded introduction to immigration evaluations so you can understand:

• What this work actually involves in practice
• The role of the psychologist within immigration cases
• Scope of practice and ethical considerations
• The different types of cases (asylum, hardship, VAWA, and more)
• What you need to know before deciding if this work is right for you

Hello! I'm Monica

I have degrees in school psychology (Ed.S.) and clinical psychology (Ph.D.), with a concentration in neuropsychology. Our team at Monica Oganes & Associates, with offices in Miami and Orlando, focuses on comprehensive multilingual evaluations, including immigration evaluations that support children and families navigating complex legal processes.

We have been conducting immigration evaluations since 2013 and have worked closely with attorneys to provide thorough, trauma-informed, and legally relevant reports, as well as expert testimony when needed. Our work is grounded in clinical expertise, ethical practice, and evidence-based approaches, with careful documentation and a clear understanding of the psychologist’s role within these cases.

In addition to our clinical work, we provide training and consultation to psychologists, neuropsychologists, and school psychologists who want to expand their practice in a thoughtful, ethical, and culturally competent way.

We created this training to give you a clear understanding of this work and your role in it, and to help you determine whether this is an area of practice you may want to pursue, particularly given the significant need for qualified professionals in this field.
