Let's Work Together

Differentiating Second Language Learning Challenges From Language Disorders

This workshop will help educators understand the bilingual brain, language acquisition principles, and academic language challenges of multilingual learners so they can implement instructional strategies to improve literacy and oral language proficiency. Participants will understand multilingual learners' educational needs, be able to address achievement barriers, and provide culturally responsive services to improve outcomes.

Strategies For Supporting Immigrant Children and Families

This workshop will help educators learn best practices to promote safe and culturally sustaining school environments, build asset-oriented partnership with immigrant families, implement culturally responsive social and emotional supports, design high-quality equitable instruction and interventions, and ensure culturally sustaining interconnected systems of support. Participants will learn about the laws that define school services for immigrant children and their families.

Identifying the Educational Needs of Multilingual Learners: Language Learning and Assessment for Specialized Instruction

This workshop will help school psychologists understand language learning and acquisition principles to improve literacy and oral language proficiency through tiered interventions. School psychologists will learn assessment strategies for test selection and interpretation in the evaluation of multilingual learners to ensure that identification for specialized instruction is done through nondiscriminatory and fair assessment methods.
